Audrey Ushenko Woman in Yellow, 2000 - Artist: Audrey Ushenko (American, born 1945) Title: Untitled; artist-assigned title not documented Date: 2000 Medium: Oil on linen Movement/Style: Contemporary narrative realism Form: Framed figurative painting Description: A substantial narrative figural composition by American painter Audrey Ushenko. A woman dressed in luminous golden-yellow attire sits cross-legged in a carved armchair, her hands raised in an animated, conversational gesture. A green glass vase filled with purple irises occupies the foreground, while a brick terrace, early-spring woodland and a sculptural mother-and-child group appear behind the sitter. The closely observed portrait, floral still life, landscape and enigmatic sculpture are integrated into a densely layered composition characteristic of Ushenko's narrative realism. Vigorous, highly worked brushwork and passages of saturated yellow, violet, green and blue give the scene its distinctive psychological and visual intensity. Signature: Signed “Audrey Ushenko” and dated “2000” within the composition.
