Handel Art Nouveau Leaded Glass Desk Lamp - Origin: Meriden, Connecticut Date: Circa 1910 Period/Style: Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts Maker: Handel Lamp Company Materials: Leaded opalescent slag glass, patinated metal, and electrical components Form: Single-light curved-arm desk lamp Description: An unusual Handel Art Nouveau desk lamp having a compact flower-bud shade constructed from curved opalescent slag-glass panels joined by dark metal cames. The overlapping petal-form panels incorporate striated aqua and emerald-green glass with contrasting passages of deep amethyst, ruby red, and amber, producing a richly colored appearance when illuminated. The shade is suspended from a single pull-chain socket at the end of a tall reeded curved arm. The patinated metal standard is enriched with naturalistic foliate ornament and rises from a circular base molded with radiating leaves and a geometric border. Marks: Base molded HANDEL along the lower rim. Underside bears a later hand-incised inventory notation. Dimensions: 14 in. Glass exhibits scattered light scratches, surface residue, and minor edge wear. Leaded framework has age-related oxidation, minor distortion, and irregular or built-up solder at scattered joints, consistent with possible old repairs. Base and curved arm exhibit substantial patina variation, oxidation, verdigris, scratches, abrasions, surface corrosion, and localized finish loss. Socket and pull-chain switch show age and wear.
