Art Nouveau Patinated Bronze Bust - Origin: Continental European style Date: Early 20th century Period/Style: Art Nouveau, with Art Deco influence Materials: Patinated bronze Form: Large female bust on an integral pedestal Description: A large hollow-cast bronze bust of a woman with an upward-turned head, elongated neck, and short coiffure gathered with floral ornaments. The face and neck retain a warm brown patina contrasting with the darkened hair, garment, and pedestal. Her bodice and tapering integral base are modeled with intertwined leaves, blossoms, and flowing stems continuing around the reverse. The organic ornament and sinuous linear treatment derive principally from Art Nouveau design, while the elongated vertical silhouette reflects an Art Deco influence.
