American Federal Mahogany Cylinder Desk, early 19th century - A well-proportioned cylinder desk in richly figured mahogany veneer, the roll-top inlaid with opposing urn motifs and opening to a fitted interior of birdseye maple drawers and compartments flanking a central prospect with shaped valance. The case fitted with three graduated long drawers, retaining oval brasses, raised on a molded base with shaped skirt. Secondary woods and hand-cut dovetail joinery consistent with early 19th century construction. 52 in. W, 24 in. D, 45 in. H Condition: Wear consistent with age and use, including scattered surface scratches, finish wear, and areas of veneer loss and lifting, most notably to the cylinder front. Minor shrinkage cracks and edge wear present. Interior with expected wear. Drawers functioning. Overall structurally sound and presents well.
