Raul Wallenberg ; August 4, 1912–1947 [2]) was a businessman who worked as a Swedish diplomat in Hungary during World War II and, using his diplomatic status, saved them from extermination by Nazi Germany and its aides during the Holocaust , tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews. Among other things, he issued and distributed thousands of Swedish sponsors to Budapest Jews, set up a network of Swedish-sponsored Swedish shelters as a safe haven for Jews, exerted various pressure on Nazi and Hungarian officials to stop Jewish shipments to Auschwitz, and even confronted SS men and stopped the deportation of Jews. Upon the liberation of Hungary, he was arrested by the Soviets, and since then his tracks have disappeared. In 1957, the Soviets claimed to have died in prison from a heart attack. In 1993, it became clear that he had been murdered in the Soviet prison. Wallenberg's story and legacy are outstanding throughout the world, and he is one of the most prominent and well-known personalities to be recognised Righteous Among the Nations. condition: exellent
