Yehudit Yellin - Simchat Torah - lithograph Signed and numbered, 5/250 52 x 40 cm Not framed
Judith (Yehudit) Yellin Ginat (1923-2005), born in Jerusalem, is a graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art and a student of M. Ardon and I. Ascheim. A graduate of the Central School of Arts & Crafts, London, she was the winner of the " Queens Scholarship" for drawings, the first of many prizes throughout the years. In 1968 she started etching and then studied etching in Paris under S.W. Hayter.
Judith Yellin's technique for creating originals is very unusual. First she paints her own papers by finger painting. This enables her to depict the unique tones and colors of Israel. She then takes this paper and hand tears them to form collages. The tearing creates a white edge and a feeling of movement and depth.
Two of Yellin's collages were chosen for UNICEF cards and many of her works are exhibited in the Israeli Embassies. Yellin has written and illustrated books on teaching arts and crafts. She has also taught her methods to many children and teachers during the thirty years she taught at the David Yellin Teacher's College in Jerusalem.
Judith's career as an artist has spanned over half a century. She has had many solo shows in Israel, Europe, the United States, Tokyo, Australia and New Zealand in Galleries and Museums.
