Talpiyot' - a Religious Periodical Printed by the Yeshiva Students of Shanghai, 1945.
Single Issue that was Printed, with the Original Discussion about the 'Date Line' and Letters by the Most Prominent Rabbis on the Subject - [1945]
Talpiyot. The periodical of the yeshiva students of Shanghai, China. Tishrei [1945]. This was the only issue of the periodical that was published!
The issue contains Torah novellae by the leading heads of yeshiva, novellae that has never been printed since it was printed in the issue before us.
The issue begins with "words attributed to the genius rabbi Menachem Ziemba" - a religious letter about the Sugiyot of the Kiddushin tractate, which was sent to Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman.
Essays by Rabbi David Kviat, a student of the Mir Yeshiva (and eventually, the head of the Mir Yeshiva of Brooklyn); Rabbi Yehoshua Dov Grodzitzky (eventually, the head of the Bialystok Yeshiva); and more.
The issue also contains a "Hassidism Section" with a long, important letter written by one of the Kock Hassidim to the Rebbe of Ger, author of 'Imrei Emet'.
The final section of the issue - "The question of Sabbath in the countries of the Far East". "What had caused us to print the question of the Sabbath and the responses of the geniuses Shalita is that we have merited being of the camp of surviving remnants and we were exiles in the country of Japan. And when we first came there, the first question we had asked as when was Sabbath and the question remained with us all the time we were there and we introduced our doubts to the leading rabbis of the generation and received their responses … therefore, we saw it as our duty to print the question of the Sabbath and the responses of the geniuses hoping the things will be published and expanded and the most prominent rabbis will discuss the issue which concerns several thousands of Jews living in the countries of the Far East…"
This section contains letters by Rabbi Simcha Zelig of Brisk and the Chazon Ish, who discusses the opinion of Rabbi Yeshaya David Briskman. Later, the issue introduces the response of the author of 'Bnei Zion', as was written down by Rabbi David Kviat.
On the last page on the issue, an announcement about the health of the Rebbe of Ger, the 'Imrei Emet'.
