An Antique Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Bowl
An Antique 19th Century Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Bowl with Provenance. Knights and merchants are depicted on the exterior of the bowl with their power animals - dragons, cow, elephant, bat. Bowl is seated on white base at the bottom and with the gilded rim on top. Underside mark from the Qing Dynasty, 19th Century. Size h 2 3/8 X 6 3/8. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
