First Edition Russian military collectible book. Russian officer neck marks by George Vvedensky. Officer neck marks, or gorgets, are vestiges of knightly armor. This is the memory of the fact that the commander - a nobleman - a horseman - a knight was chained in a steel shell and was thus different from other soldiers on the battlefield. In modern times, neck marks were the only way to distinguish the ranks of commanders and the most spectacular sign of corporate distinction.
