Rabbi Meir Eisenstadt - Mahara"m A"sh [1670-1744] was one of the rabbinic leaders of his generation, known by the name of this book, as "the author of Panim Meirot." He was a relative of the Sha"ch's, and studied under the Magen Avraham in his youth. He was a rabbi in a number of prominent communities, and was appointed rabbi of Eisenstadt and "The Seven Communities" in 1717. Students came from near and far to the large yeshivah he established. His primary disciple was Rabbi Yehonatan Eybeschutz, who was an orphan; the Mahara"m A"sh raised him as a son and as a disciple.
