Rare Large Artistic Portrait of the Rosh Yeshivah of Slobodka, Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Epstein, with his Handwritten Dedication and Signature
Special large artistic photograph of the rosh yeshivah, with a dedication underneath: "Souvenir for my friend Menachem Aryeh ben Eliezer, 28 Tevet 1927," handwritten and signed by him.
Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Epsteinֲ [1866-1934] studied at the Volozhin yeshivah, where he was considered a prodigy. He was summoned by the "Alter of Slabodka" to serve as the rosh yeshivah of Knesset Yisrael in Slabodkaֲ and in Chevron. Aside this, he was Av Beit Din in Slabodka and active in the Council of Torah Sages. The picture before us was taken two years before the 1929 pogroms, in which many of the yeshivah students were murdered and the Jewish settlement in Chevron was destroyed. Rabbi Epstein, his family, and all those in his home survived. He authored the book series Levush Mordechai.
