As part of an early attempt at establishing a Hebrew Fleet, businessman Aryeh Garbanov bought an old Danish ship named Emanuel.
The photo, by AP, shows the flag being raised on the ship at Southampton Port, and the inscription on the back reads "First vessel to fly Palestine Flag for more then 2000 years".
The amusing story is that Garbanov decided the ship must have a Hebrew flag and so he designed a special flag which was hand sewn by Jewish Danish women. A British Jew misunderstood the newpaper item and thought the flag itself is 2000 years old and stole it...". [Wikipedia].
