Letter by Rabbi Yitzchak Shmelkes of Lvov thanking Rabbi Yosef Yehuda Sofer of Derecske for sending him his book Yalkut Sofer. Clear signature and stamp.
Rabbi Yitzchak Shmelkes, recognised from a young age for his amazing Torah knowledge and great diligence. Disciple of Rabbi Yosef Shaul Nathanson of Lvov. Rabbi of Zhuravna (1857), Brzezany, Przemysl (1870) and Lvov (1894). Leading halachic authority and teacher to a large number of future Galician rabbis and scholars. Author of Beis Yitzchak – six volumes, Siach Yitzchak and other works.
Rabbi Yosef Yehuda Sofer of Derecske, son of Rabbi Eliezer Zussman Sofer of Paks. Disciple of his father, as well as of the Shevet Sofer and Rabbi Moshe Pollack of Bonyhad. Rabbi of Derecske (1885) and Paks (1903). Author of Likutei Sofer – two volumes, and Yalkut Sofer – five volumes.
