LA VERITE SUR BUCHENWALD Ce Soir Press, Paris, 1946. Testimonies of prisoners from the Buchenwald death camp a few months after their release. Rare publication.
A one-time publication defending the name of Buchenwald prisoner Marcel Paul [1900-1982]. In 1927 Paul joined the PCF - the French Communist Party. During World War II he was taken captive by the Nazis, but managed to escape, returned to Paris in 1940 and headed the rebel organization SPFciale, in which an attempt was made to kill Hermann Goering. In November 1941 he was arrested and tortured at the St. Denis police station. He was later transferred to Auschwitz and Buchenwald. His role in the Buchenwald camp is still controversial. Some claim that he was a preferred prisoner and collaborated with the camp commanders, which led to the death of several prisoners.
The pamphlet before us came out immediately after the war to protect Paul's name. It contains testimonies of former prisoners and various officials who defend him and describe in their testimony a moral personality that saved many prisoners from death (among them the famous French aircraft manufacturer Marcel Dassault) and never incriminated a man.
