A Fine Large Wood Wicker and Brass Marriage Basket, Japan, Meiji Period, 19th Century

Designed as a hexagonal, four tier basket. Each tier decorated with alternating panels of wreathed wicker work and wood engravings depicting cornucopia. The top lacquered and decorated with a depiction of a wedding procession. All connected by a large, carved wood handle decorated with more wicker work and applied brass ornaments.
