Two real photo cards - volunteers in the "People's Service" - 1947

Two real photo cards with Photographs of volunteers in the 'sherut haam' [service of the people] with the special symbol designed for the "People's Command" unit. rare.

"Commander for the Service of the People," was a system of general mobilization in the Yishuv in the months preceding the establishment of the state between the 29th of November 1947 and the declaration of the state in May 1948. In the Jewish community there was a general mobilization system established by the leadership of the Yishuv and the Haganah. The recruitment method headed by 'the Center for People's Command, headed by Levi Eshkol and Binyamin Avniel, included the publication of recruitment orders in the Hebrew press and the establishment of recruitment offices. Recruitment was called for men and women between the ages of 17 and 25. parades of youth and orchestras were held in the big cities where posters were being held saying: "The time has come! Your friends at positions! And you're home?"
In addition, special cards were printed, such as those before us, which bore the picture of the recruits, and the symbol designed especially for this unit, which led to the enlistment of tens of thousands who before the establishment of the IDF were called "the defensive forces". Mass volunteerism enabled the Haganah to stand ready with six infantry brigades on the day of the invasion of the Arab armies, May 15, 1948.

Same size: 9x6 cm. Very fine condition. Attached is a photograph of conscripts in the 'sherut haam'.
