Thomas Cruise Mapother IV (born July 3, 1962) is known as Tom Cruise. As a child, Cruise grew up in poverty in a family dominated by an abusive father whom he described as "a dealer of chaos" and a "bully and coward." He began his career on theater stages in Canada. His way to the big screen began Cruise in a small role in Franco Zeffirelli's film, " Endless Love" (1981). At the height of his career as an actor, he was nominated for three Oscars and won three Golden Globe awards for those films: "Born on the Fourth of July" (1989), Jerry Maguire (1996), Magnolia (1999). Cruise's first performance in a big film was in 1981 with the film "The Siege at Bunker Hill". His first lead role was in "Risky Business", released in August 1983.

Cruise has starred in 13 films that have grossed over 100 million $ in the United States, making him the biggest blockbuster in the world, with the exception of Tom Hanks. Cruise appeared in five consecutive blockbusters: 'A Few Good Men', 'The Firm', 'The Vampire Chronicles', 'Mission: Impossible' and 'Jerry Maguire'. In the 2000s, Cruz managed to recover this feat by starring in six consecutive blockbusters, from 'Mission Impossible 2' to the summer of 2006.
