Struck after 1805 AD
By Thomason. Obv: facing head outlined with numbered phrenological zones with explanation list in six panels around with PHRENOLOGY at top and signed at bottom edge. Rev: profile head similarly outlined in zones and described. 115.4 grams, 73mm. Extremely fine. Rare.

Footnotes
This medallion was struck to honour Franz Joseph Gall (1758-1828 AD), commemorating his lectures in Berlin in 1805; the medal depicts the symbolical head; the obverse and reverse delineate the thirty-five phrenological zones and faculties as conceived by J. G. Spurzheim (1776-1832 AD).
