Mainly 3rd millennium BC
A mixed group of stone stamp seals, mainly drum-shaped or plano-convex in profile, including eleven accompanied by an old scholarly note, typed and signed by W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which state: (T-598) 'Bifacial Stamp Seal of White Stone 14.54 x 14 x 7 mm. This is a round disc with flat faces and vertical sides, through it is pierced for suspension. The designs on both faces are achieved with the drill alone. The one shows a curling snake, the other a pattern of a simple cross and lines joining the ends of the arms. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. There is some corrosion of the surface, but the designs are clear.' (T-589) 'Stamp Seal of Red Stone 20 x 20 x 8 mm. This can be described as a square with rounded sides, with flat face and convex back on which is a pierced handle of one piece with the rest. The design on the face consists of a linear cross from corner to corner with a central dot, four dots forming an inner circle, and 12 dots forming an outer circle. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 3000-2000 B.C. It is a rare type and in fair condition: a little rubbed, but sound.' (T-625) "Bifacial Stamp seal of Lapis 11 x 11 x 6 mm. This is a round disc, pierced for suspension. the two designs are done with the drill alone. The one shows a curling snake, the other a simple cross and groups of three drill-holes filling the quarters so created. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c.2300-2000 B.C. It is a good example of its kind and in good condition.' (T-932) 'Stamp seal of White Marble 19 x 20 x 11.5 mm. This is a thick round disc pierced for suspension. The one side has a design showing a recumbent quadruped (perhaps a lion) with three groups of dots around it. The other side shows a plant. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is in good condition and a large specimen of its type. The designs are done entirely with the drill.' (T-933) 'Stamp Seal of White Stone 13 x 13 x 9 mm. This is a thick round disc pierced for suspension. Each side has a design done with the drill. Both designs consist of a plant with central stem bearing a bloom and two leaves around the stem. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B. C. It is a typical example of its type and is in fine condition.' (R-110) 'Bifacial Stamp Seal of White Stone 11.5 x 11 x 7 mm. This is a round disc, thick, and pierced for suspension. Both faces have designs composed of drill holes alone. The one shows a kind of swastika, the other a pattern of four triangular shaped based on the centre. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. The surface is a little corroded, but the design remains clear.' (R-106) 'Bifacial Stamp Seal of White Stone 13 x 12.5 x 5 mm. This is a round disc, pierced for suspension. Both flat faces show a design composed of drill holes. The one shows a kind of swastika, the other perhaps a springing animal with big ears: it is not completely certain. This comes from west central Asia and dates to 2300-2000 B.C. It is worn and corroded, but the designs can still be seen.' (R-67) 'Bifacial Stamp Seal of White Stone 13 x 13 x 10 mm. This is a thick, round disc, pierced for suspension. Both faces have designs achieved with drill holes alone. The one is a simple cross with fillings in the four triangles so created. The other is composed of three triangular groups of dots. This is a seal from west central Asia, c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is in very good condition.' (R-37) 'Bifacial Stamp seal of Translucent Whitish Stone, 11 x 10.5 x 6mm. This is a thick disc, round, and pierced for suspension. Designs in drill holes occur on both sides. The one shows a plant with flower on the single stem and two leaves sprouting from the base. The other side has a design composed of a simple cross and groups of holes filling the triangles so created. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is worn but the designs remain clear.' (R-108) 'Bifacial Stamp Seal of White Stone 12 x 12 x 7 mm. This is a round, thick disc, pierced for suspension. Both faces show designs of drill holes. The one shows a plant with straight central stem and two sets of side shoots, the other a kind of swastika. This comes from west central Asia and dates to 2300-2000 B,C. It is corroded in a few spots, but generally in very good condition.' (R-33) 'Bifacial Stamp Seal of Lapis 11 x 11 x 9.5 mm. This is a round disc, pierced for suspension. Each side has a design done with the drill alone. The one is a plant with pairs of leaves each side of a central stem. The other is a simple cross and fillings with[in] the four triangles so created.
