A substantial gold openwork ring in the form of an ecclesiastical column capital; the shank with scrolling vine to the base, to the sides a shield with cross to the centre, lobed section with trefoil, above a further trefoil; to both sides of the bezel two peacocks either side of a central cross, to the long sides a series of crosses in a circle with scrolling vine motif to the top; top of the bezel with three panels, central, recessed panel with equal-armed cross with vine scrolls to the top and bottom; two flanking panels with interlaced diamond pattern with central square. 42.26 grams, 29.82mm overall, 18.67mm internal diameter (approximate ring size British Q 1/2, USA 8 1/2, Europe 18.62, Japan 18) (1 1/4"). Very fine condition. A large wearable size.
