Middle Kingdom, 1938-1758 BC
A bronze discoid mirror with one polished face, ivory handle formed as a papyrus stalk with incised collar and leaf detailing; mounted on a custom-made stand. 302 grams, 24.5cm (9 1/2"). Fine condition.
Provenance
Formerly in a private American collection, kept in Europe since the 1960s, imported to into the UK in 2003; formerly with Pierre Bergé & Associés, Archéologie, Paris, 1 June 2012, Lot 39 (7,000-8,000 euros); accompanied by copies of the relevant Pierre Bergé catalogue pages.
