Arieh Moskowitz (b. 1930), King and Queen Combined Portrait of the Old City Jerusalem, signed and dated 2003, dimensions: 34X49 cm.
* Arie Moskowitz (born 1930) is an Israeli painter, illustrator and graphic artist in naive style. Moskowitz Aryeh was born in 1930 in Yasi, Romania, and at the age of 12 began working as an apprentice to set up sets for the theater and opera of Bucharest, and in December 1946 he immigrated to Palestine alone on the ship "Rafiah", which sank in a storm near the Greek island Sirena, and her survivors were sent to detention camps in Cyprus.
In 1948 he arrived in Safed, where, on instructions of the local Haganah commander, he designed the stamps of Safed. He began the career of a painter, illustrator and graphic designer, in which he illustrated thousands of books, and designed many symbols known, including symbols of IDF units.
M. Arieh published a large number of children's and youth books in the fifties, sixties and seventies - from cultivated Bible stories to "Kofiko", "Hasamba" and "Dunedine." For many years he was the home illustrator of M. Mizrachi Publishing House and designed its library He also illustrated many greeting cards: M. Aryeh designed more than 300 symbols for the IDF. In his seventies he served in the IDF as a major in the reserves, and worked on the design of the symbols of the units and other symbols.
His paintings are precise in detail and realistic, but present an ideal picture typical of naive painting.
