R. Moshe Zacuto (1625-1697), was renowned as a great Talmid Chochom as well as a Kabbalist. Originally from Amsterdam, he attempted to journey to Eretz Yisroel via Italy. Whilst in Italy he was appointed as Rav in Venice and later in Montova. He edited the Zohar Chodosh for publication in 1658, and also wrote many poems for celebrations and special occasions.
