Letter From Rabbi Yosef Zundel Salant and Reb Shaya Bardaki to Sir Moses Montefiore, Jerusalem 1859

"Many blessings and thanks to our master… for his good kindness and effort and diligence towards life in Jerusalem. May he be blessed with much goodness and delight in much peace."

A letter signed by the leaders of the Prushim community of Jerusalem, addressed to Sir Moses Montefiore.
The letter is also signed by Rabbi Yeshaya Bardaki and Rabbi Shimon Zarchi of Tauragė.

Rabbi Yosef Zundel Salant (1786 - 1866) was one of the great disciples of Rabbi Chaim Volozhin, known by all as the " peh shlishi" of the Vilna Gaon." He was the father-in-law of Rabbi Shmuel Salant and one of the leaders of Jerusalem's Jewish settlement.

Rabbi Yeshaya Bardaki (1790 - 1863) was a disciple of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, son-in-law of Rabbi Yisrael of Shklov, author of Pe'as Hashulchan. He worked tirelessly and accomplished much for the sake of Jewish settlement in Jerusalem.

Rabbi Shimon Zarchi (1788 - 1860), Av Beis Din of Tauragė, immigrated to Eretz Yisrael in 1856 where he served as the first president of the Talmud Torah and Eitz Chaim Yeshivah. He authored Responsa Nachlas Shimon.
