Questions on Shas Sent from Rabbi Shlomo Eiger of Lublin, Rosh Yeshiva Chachme Lublin
Letter written on personal stationary addressed to the “
honored genius, master of Torah...” (Seemingly regarding to the Rugatchaver).
Rabbi Shlomo Eiger (1871-1940) was the son of Rabb Avraham Eiger of Lublin, and a direct descendant of Rabbi Akiva Eiger. He was among the great rabbinical leaders of Poland prior to the Holocaust and a brilliant Torah scholar. Following the passing of Maharam Shapira, Rabbi Shlomo succeeded his position as Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin, shouldering all his responsibilities. He perished in the Warsaw ghetto on the fifth of Tamuz, 1940, and was buried in the Warsaw ghetto.
