(Hebrew. Genesis). Sepher Bereishith.
Title within borders depicting Roman soldiers and conquests. Annotated in Latin, extensively in many places. ff. 115. Lightly browned, fore-edges of final blanks curled, ex libris at end. Later full vellum with morocco spine labels, worn. 12mo. Vinograd, Rome 25.
Vittorio Eliano and Francesco Zanetti, Rome: 1578.
A scarce edition unknown to Darlow & Moule.
The city of Rome never became a center of Hebrew printing as its more northerly neighbors did, likely due to the imposing presence of the Vatican. In fact this book, as well as two other minor works put out by the same printer, were the only Hebrew books printed in Rome between the years 1548 and 1618.
