M. Thalmessinger; Waldheimer and Zenn, c. 1858 and , New York: 1869.

David Einhorn (1809-79) migrated to America from Germany in 1855, where he became the acknowledged leader of Reform Movement. In 1858 he published his revised prayer book, which has formed the model for all subsequent revisions, laying the foundation of the regime under which the mass of American Jews now worship. Einhorn advocated the introduction of prayers in the vernacular, the exclusion of nationalistic hopes from the synagogue service, and other ritual modifications.
The title page of this edition states that the volume is “For sale at the office of the Sexton of the Congregation Temple Beth El” (NYC), indicating that the edition was originally intended to serve the members of that congregation. Bound into this volume following the prayer book is a German language hymnal issued for Congregation Adath Jeshurun, New York.
