Torah Nevi’im Kesuvim. Biblia Hebraica. Philadelphia 1849.
First American edition of the Hebrew Bible with vocalized and cantillated text.
Published by Isaac Leeser with the assistance of Joseph Jaquett. With preface in Latin by Isaac Leeser.
Although Leeser had virtually no rabbinic contemporaries in America with whom to confer, he nonetheless persevered in the task of preparing many important Hebrew texts for publication. This was in addition to the many other rabbinic duties he undertook in his noble mission to disseminate Torah true Judaism in unfamiliar and often hostile surroundings.
Goldman 9. Johnson press. 1, 20, 1416 pages. 21 cm. Good condition. Title page with first few pages detached. Lacking spine and front cover.
