THREE STAMPS FROM THE LODZ GHETTO
Three stamps (values: 5, 10 and 20) issued by the head of the Judenrat in the Lodz ghetto (Litzmannstadt), Rumkowski.
Mordechai Chaim Rumkowski, chairman of the Judenrat, promoted a method of collaboration with the Germans, and dedicated work of Jews in appropriate workplaces. He believed that if Jews are a productive force, it will be possible to draw out the time and minimize death. His position was disputed. In recent years he’s seen in a more positive light considering the situation at the time.
The picture of Rumkowski appears on the right side of the stamp, and on the left side appear tool that Jews used in the workshops where they worked.
Excellent condition.
