TWO ANTIQUE RELIGIOUS ITALIAN DUTCH ENGRAVINGS

Two antique religious engravings. One is a rare print titled S. Christina after Antiveduto Gramatica (Italian, 1571-1626). Signed by the engraver Carel van Mallery lower right and by Antiveduto Gramatica lower left in the plate. Published by Jacobus Laurus in Rome, 1598. The other is a print of S. Veronica engraved after Theodoor van Thulden (Dutch, 1606-1669). Singed by engraver lower right. Circa the 1630s.Antiveduto Gramatica was a proto-Baroque Italian painter, active near Rome. Grammatica's earliest surviving public commission, an old-fashioned configuration depicting Christ the Savior with St. Stanislaus of Krakow, St. Adalbert of Prague and St Hyacinth Odrowaz, was painted for the high altar of Santo Stanislao dei Polacchi. His works are exhibited in numerous public collections, including the State Hermitage Museum - St Petersburg, the Museo Nacional del Prado – Madrid, the Kunsthistorisches Museum - Vienna, and more.Theodoor van Thulden was a painter, etcher and publisher. Pupil of Abraham Blijenburch in Antwerp. Lived in Paris in 1632-1634 when most of his etchings were made. Returned to Antwerp to work for the Pompa Introitus of 1635. In Paris briefly to paint altarpieces for the Mathurins in 1647. Two main series of prints: Les Travaux d'Ulysse after Primaticcio and Nicolo dell'Abbate at Fontainebleau, published in 1633, and The Pompa Introitus of Ferdinand of Austria into Antwerp in 1635, after Rubens, published in 1641.
