Known as the Baal Shem of Worms, R. Eliyahu Loans (1555-1636) was a Frankfurt-born Kabbalist. He spent time in Cracow and in Prague where he initiated and led a group of mystics known as Machane Yisrael. This included R. Yoel, who taught R. Adam of Ropshnitz, who taught the Baal Shem Tov.
