EPSTEIN, MOSHE
(Grand Rabbi of Ozerov - Chantzin, 1889-1971). Autograph Letter Signed, written in Hebrew on letterhead.
One page.
Tel Aviv: n.d
The son of Grand Rabbi Aryeh Yehuda Leib Epstein, the third Admur of Ozarow, R. Moshe Yechiel Epstein was rabbi in Otwock before Polish anti-Semitisim encouraged his move to America in 1927. There, he led a community of Ozerov immigrants on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, later he moved his Chassidic court to the Bronx.
Following World War II, remnants of the Chasidim of Chentshin were left leaderless, their Rebbe having been killed by the Nazis, and so they adopted the Ozherover Rebbe, a grandson of the first Chentshiner Rebbe, as their leader. R. Moshe Yechiel was therefore given the title: Grand Rabbi of Ozherov-Chentshin. R. Moshe Yechiel moved to Eretz Israel in 1952, where he authored the encyclopedic series of Torah commentaries Eish Dat (11 volumes) and Be'er Moshe (12 volumes).
