(1920-2007) U.S. Marine Corps corporal, member of the patrol that captured the top of Mount Suribachi where he helped raise the first U.S. flag on the island on February 23, 1945. FDC with a Honoring the Armed Forces Battle Scenes of Iwo Jima First Day of Issue cachet and the 3 cent green Iwo Jima stamp, canceled 'Jul. 11 9 AM 1945 Washington DC.' Lindberg signed the cover in black ink, 'Charles W. Lindberg, 1st Flag Raiser, Iwo Jima, Feb. 23, 1945, 10:30, A.M.', 6.5 x 3.5 inches.
