Moreh Nevuchim - Guide to Perplexed, Sabbioneta 1553. A Fine Copy.

A complete copy of Rambam’s Moreh HaNevuchim, the Sabbioneta edition, 1553. Moreh Nevuchim was first published in Rome at around 1480, and republished in Venice in 1551, this time with additional commentaries of “Shem Tov” and “Afudi”. This third Sabbioneta edition was printed with an additional commentary of R. Hasdai Ibn Crescas, a 14th century Torah scholar.

Ownership inscriptions seen on title page. In the center portion, the inscription reads: “I purchased this book from… Aaron Foa, I remain, Eliezer Yitzchak Cohen”. Marginal glosses seen on some pages including pp. 25, 59, 166. These glosses are written in ancient Italian script and appear to have been written by a person of great stature. Final colophon of R. Shmuel Ibn Tibbon is written in Italian.

In very good condition. Light foxing, trimmed margins. Like most copies, this copy lacks the additional 2 pp. with scientific diagrams, supplied in facsimile. Bound in a new, ornate leather binding.

[14], 174 pp.

Vinograd, Sabbioneta 8.
