Erlau (Eger) Parshath Tetzaveh Before 1914
R. Shimon Sofer known as the Erlauer Rav, was the son of R. Avraham Binyamin Sofer (the Kesav Sofer) and grandson of the Chasam Sofer. He is famed for his halachic work Hithoreruth Teshuvah. His grandson, R. Moshe Sofer, is the present Erlau Rebbe, based in Jerusalem.
R. Yisrael Weltz (1887-1973) studied in Pressberg after which he served as rabbi in Budapest There, he hid R. Yissachar Shlomo Teichtal during the dark years of the Holocaust.
