NEAR PAIR OF HENRI ARDANT LIMOGES PORCELAIN VASES

A French near pair of Henri Ardant and Company Limoges biscuit porcelain vases. The vases feature a tall-footed base in cream with applied gold highlights. The bodies of the vases have a hand-painted cartouche at the center with a glamour scene of two elegant ladies and a boy with a musical instrument, book and wine. Around this is a heavy applied gold border on a black ground. Sitting on the shoulders of the vases are two dark women figurines wearing flowing robes decorated with leaves and stars and holding castanets in their hands. Below the women is an elegant swag of laurel leaves wrapping around the top of the vase. The neck of the vase is tapered and flared at the top rim. The bottom of one vase is marked, HA and CIE, this is for the Limoges porcelain manufacturer Henri Ardant (French, 1828-1883). The company made biscuit ware, and Ardant was noted for his artist productions. Circa Late 19th Century.

Dimensions: H: 17 5/8 in.
