An antique Russian Orthodox icon depicting The Mother of God from the Deesis. The Deesis rite is an image of prayer for the human race, reminding believers of the Second Coming of Christ, the Last Judgment and the intercession of the saints before the Savior. Wood, tempera on gesso, presumably Ural, the first half of the 19th-century.
