HERMANN GORING'S TAPESTRY
A large piece of red silk damask, approx 50 x 57 inches, sent to Hermann Goering for approval to be used as a wall covering for his library. The fabric is decorated with a repeating pattern of a large Prussian Eagle with a swastika on his chest in gold thread. The sample sent to Herrn Goering is accompanied in the original envelope with a note attached written on his official Prussian Minister-President letterhead, dated Berlin 2. August 1937, and reads: 'Sample of the textile wall tapestry for the library of the Herrn Minister-President. Submit to Herrn Minister-President for sampling and approval.' Signed by the librarian G. Limberger. Signed by Goering in purple pencil with an illegible note by him. When Hitler was named chancellor of Germany in January 1933, Goering was appointed as minister without portfolio, Minister-President of the Free State of Prussia in Nazi Germany until 1945.
