Two Hanukkah Lamps Designed as Stars of David – Folk Art – Tunisia
Two Hanukkah lamps with back plates formed as Stars of David – folk art. Probably Djerba, Tunisia, [first half of 20th century].
Sheet copper and tin, cut and shaped.
1. With an unusually broad row of eight rings projecting forward from lower horizontal axis of back plate, meant to hold glass goblets serving as oil fonts. Additional ring, for servant light goblet, attached to middle of upper axis of back plate.
Height: 23.5 cm. Width: 40 cm.
2. Row of reeded oil fonts, projecting forward, attached to horizontal metal strip, attached in turn by two metal hooks, on either side, to rear of Star-of-David back plate, and situated just beneath and parallel to lower axis of Star of David. Oil font for servant light attached by metal hook to rear of upper axis of Star-of-David back plate, in middle.
Height: 26 cm. Width: 22 cm.
Condition varies. Some corrosion and rust. Minor damage.
