A bronze figure of a fisherman by P. Kowalczewski. The figure, 31 cm high, was placed on a granite pedestal 10 cm high. The total height of the whole is 41 cm. The author's signature is on the base of the figure. A sign with the words "JUBIL AUM SPREIS N.R.V. KIEL 1928" was attached to the granite base. Paul Ludwig Kowalczewski (born August 25, 1865 in Mielżyn, died May 9, 1910 in Berlin) - German sculptor from Greater Poland.He was born in the village of Mielżyn in the Witkowska Land (in the Kingdom of Prussia), where he spent his youth. Wielkopolska, especially Witkowo and his hometown, have always remained in his heart and left their mark on his work. From 1895, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin (Akademie der Künste) for three years, and from 1899 to 1906 he exhibited his works at the Great Art Exhibitions organized in Berlin. He was a very prolific artist, he created busts and Art Nouveau sculptures in bronze. The theme of his works were human figures with ancient features, the most common motifs were warriors, archers and winners, as well as nymphs and workers at work . He sculpted nature sporadically, incl. birds. Currently, his works are very popular on the German antiquities market and often reach high prices.This item will be shipped from our Europe office.
