Polish Library in Paris Report 1853 Rare
Report of a fundraiser for a house for the Polish Library in Paris. Published in 1853. The brochure has eight pages of 23 x 4 cm format. It contains information on the results of an action aimed at purchasing a house in Paris for the seat of the Polish National Library. The Polish Library in Paris was a Polish cultural institution, founded in 1838, incl. by Adam Jerzy Czartoryski, Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz, and Karol Sienkiewicz as the foundation of the Great Emigration after national uprisings against Russia, Prussia and Austria occupying Polish territory. Its task was to collect books, archives and national souvenirs, saved from looting and destruction. It has become a documentation center open to the disposal of Poles and foreigners. In 2013, UNESCO entered the Library, the Historical and Literary Society in Paris and the Adam Mickiewicz Museum in Paris on the Register of Memory of the World. This item will be shipped from our Europe office.
