Kolel Shomrey HaChomot - a collection of early and important documents

A collection of legal documents related to Kolel Shomrey HaChomot  in Jerusalem. Years 1930-1939.

* Letter from the Rabbis of Pressburg and Environs to Rabbi Akiva Sofer in which they Establish him as the Rosh Kollel of Shomrei HaChomot in Jerusalem: 'President of our kollel Shomrei HaChomot in the Holy Land, shlit"a! Please rescue the many Jews for the sake of His great name!" Declaration of dozens of rabbis in Pressburg and environs sent to Rabbi Akiva Sofer in which they establish him as rosh kollel of Shomrei HaChomot in Jerusalem. Four leaves in stencil print, printed rabbinic signatures, and handwritten signatures of the secretary R' Elchanan Lsak and head of the bureau R' Azriel Papa. Pressburg 1930. 4 leaves.

Documents deal with changes made to the members of the kollel presidency, changes in the manner of distribution, sections and regulations regarding the elections of the kollel committees, changes in the kollel regulations during the war, documents approved by the Palestinian government in connection with the introduction of changes to the kollel, and more.

Kolel Shomrey HaChomot ("Ungrin Kollel") was established in Jerusalem in 1856 by Rabbi Shimon Deitch, one of the students of the Hatam Sofer in Pressburg and one of the leaders of the Aliyat Hatam students' immigration to Eretz Israel. The kollel was later headed by Rabbi Deitch's son-in-law, Rabbi Moshe Nahum Wallenstein and Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld. In 1891, the kollel built the Ungarin houses neighborhood, near Mea Shearim. The kollel supported members of the Hungarian community in finding housing and financial assistance, as part of the "division." The assistance was provided through the association's charity fund, and a fund Rabbi Meir Baal Hanes. The money was donated by Jews in the Diaspora. The members of the Hungarian community in Jerusalem distinguished themselves from the rest of the city in their zeal and strictness to the law and the spirit of Judaism, in the spirit of the "New Prohibited from the Torah" method of the Hatam Sofer. They stood out in their leadership of the struggles of conservative elements among the ultra-Orthodox in Jerusalem and they took a significant part in the establishment of the ultra-Orthodox community.

Not thoroughly tested.
