Rare: Machzor for Shalosh Regalim According to the Carpentras Community Rite, Amsterdam 1759. First Edition.

A complete copy of the rare Machzor printed in Amsterdam exclusively for the Carpentras Jewish community of southeast France. Carpentras is undoubtedly one of the oldest Jewish communities in France. The synagogue, which is still in use today, was built in 1367. This is the first printed edition, as previously all Machzorim of Carpentras existed only in manuscript form. Only 600 copies of this Machzor were ever published, rendering this edition extremely rare.

Surprisingly, a Prayer and Blessing on behalf of “Our Master the Pope” is seen on pp. 217, as the Jewish community benefited greatly from his kindness.

Apparently, the printers encountered many mishaps and difficulties while preparing this edition for print, as blank leaves are seen in several places. After the completion of the printing, those pages were reprinted with a special header indicating where those pages were supposed to have been printed.

In very good condition. Bound in 19th century leather binding, worn. Paper slightly browned.
