Classic: Sefer Ma’asei HaShem - Passover Haggadah, Venice 1583. First Edition. The Personal Copy of R. Yisroel Bassan - A Foremost Disciple of Ramchal.

A complete copy of the first edition of Sefer Ma’asei HaShem, written by R. Eliezer HaRofeh - Ashkenazi, and printed at Venice in 1583. The personal copy of R. Yisroel Bassan of Reggio, a foremost disciple of the R. Moshe Chaim Luzzato - Ramchal. Additional marginal glosses seen, seemingly in his handwriting.

R. Eliezer Ashkenazi (1513-1586), a Disciple of Rabbi Yosef Taitatzak and Rabbi Yosef Caro (together with Rabbi Alshich). At the age of 26 he served as rabbi in Egypt. For a year he was forced to leave Egypt and move to the city of Famagusta in Cyprus as described in his introduction to his Sefer, Yosef Lekach.

Later, he moved to Venice but due to a serious dispute with Rabbi Shmuel Yehuda Katzenelnbogen of Padua, he was forced to relocate to Prague. He eventually became Rabbi of Poznan and headed a Yeshiva there. He died in 1586 and is buried in Krakow.

It is well known that those who visit his gravesite in Krakow are immediately answered. R. Shmuel Binyamin Sofer, the Kesav Sofer, made serious attempts to visit his geavesite but was unsuccessful. In recent years, however his gravesite has been found and preserved.

Seen on the title page is the autograph of R. Yisroel Binyamin Bassan of Reggio (1700-1790), a foremost disciple of R. Moshe Chaim Luzzato and son of R. Yeshaya Bassan, commonly known as MaHari Bassan.

Additional marginal glosses seen on several leaves, apparently in the handwriting of R. Yisroel Bassan.

In very good condition.
