Mesilat Yesharim by the Ramchal. First Edition. Printed in the Ramchal’s Lifetime. Amsterdam 1740. Fundamental Book.

"בכל דור ודור עינינו רואות חיבורים רבים ונחמדים חדשים לבקרים...ועתה העיר השם את רוח החכם הנעלה כמוה"ר משה חיים לוצאטו נר"ו, לשבר מתלעות עול ולתקן המעוות..."

The book Mesilat Yesharim authored by the Ramchal, is a fundamental book on ethics that earned great respect from Torah sages throughout the generations. The Vilna Gaon declared that this book does contain even one superfluous word and that had the Ramchal lived during his lifetime, he would travel by foot from afar to meet him.

The Maggid of Mezeritz, the famed Chassidic master claimed that the Ramchal’s generation were not worthy to appreciate and value the Ramchal’s greatness. The Maggid understood that the controversy surrounding the Ramchal and lack of his acceptance due to his Kabbala study, was due to his generation’s limitations of greatness. They therefore suspecting him of being connected to Shabtai Zvi, a fake Messiah.

The Maggid of Kozhnitz declared that he reached his level of greatness only due to his study of Mesilat Yesharim.

The righteous Rabbi Yosef Zundel of Salant related to his disciple, Rabbi Yisrael of Salant, that when he left the town of Volozhin he sought the counsel of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin as to which book of ethics he should study. Rabbi Chaim replied, “All books on ethics are good, but the Mesilat Yesharim is the one that must be your primary guide”.

This monumental work includes a comprehensive ethical guide.

Amsterdam 1740. Printed by Naftali Hertz Rofe. First edition. Printed during the Ramchal’s lifetime. Over one hundred subsequent editions have been printed, and it remains the primary book of ethics till this day.
