Collection of 7 Decrees and Regulations Concerning Jews – Ferrara, the 17th-18th Centuries
בפרארה היו עשרה בתי כנסת, והרבה בתי דפוס עבריים. תנ"ך פרארה נדפס ב- 1553.
בשנת 1598 עברה פרארה תחת שלטון מדינת האפיפיור. דוכסות אסטה עברה למודנה ועמה יהודים רבים. בפרארה נותרו כ- 1,500 יהודים. הוטלו עליהם מגבלות ואפליות, למשל לבישת סימן היכר, איסור להחזיק נדל"ן, וסגירתם של שבעה בתי כנסת. בשנת 1627 נאלצו היהודים לעבור לגטו של פרארה, שחמישה שערים סגרו אותו, שם גרו במשך מאה שנים.
למן המאה ה- 17 ועד לאיחוד איטליה בסוף המאה ה- 19 סבלו יהודי פרארה מתקיפות ופרעות מצד המון נוצרי. בשנת 1721 נפוצה בעיר עלילת דם, ובעקבותיה מהומות אלימות נגד יהודים.
