Letter from Samarkand in the middle of the Holocaust from Rabbi Yakov Weidenfeld son of the Tchbiner Rav.

A poignant letter in Yiddish about their dire situation. Written by Rabbi Yakov Weidenfeld son of the Gaon Rabbi Dov Berish Weidenfeld Rabbi of Tchebin. Addressed to Rabbi Yoel Fink in Brooklyn who was close to the family & was a Ra''M in Yeshiva Torah V'dass.

Samarkand, Bucaria 1942. Interestingly it passed through the censor.

''Please do all you can to help us, meanwhile send us at least some money & clothing''

''As you know we were released a few months ago. The difference is that previously we were held in the far away Siberia & now we are in South Asia''.

The Gaon Rabbi Yakov Weidenfeld was born as the oldest son to his father circa 1902. His father praised his Lamdanus & straight thinking mind. He obtained Semicha from his uncle the Gaon Rabbi Nuchem Weidenfeld & of Rabbi Yosef Necemia Kornitzer Rabbi of Krakow.

He served as a Ra''m in Yeshivas 'Kochev Miyakov' that his father founded in  Tchebin.

He perished in the Holocaust there in Samarkand a short time after writing this letter, Hy''d.
