(HAGADAH) Hagadah - Amsterdam - 1712
Illustrated Amsterdam Hagadah with a Biblical Map of Eretz Yisrael,
Hagadah with selections from the writings of the Abarbanel, author of Ma'asei Hashem, Mateh Aharon, and Chevel Bnei Yehuda, with comments and laws in Hebrew, Yiddish, and Ladino.

Printed by Shlomo Proops, Amsterdam, 1712.

This is a copy of the famous Amsterdam Haggadah. The haggadah was printed for the first time in 1695, and then another edition in 1712 with slight changes. The map was printed with the year detail 1712.

Two title pages, the first with a drawing of Moshe and Aharon, and Moshe at the burning bush. Many other pictures appear on the leaves of the haggadah. The pictures were made with a copperplate technique - this is one of the first Hebrew books which started using copperplate instead of woodcut.

The haggadah includes a map of the Land of Israel including tribal divisions and a chart of the desert journeys, and a list of the Children of Israel's encampments. With a drawing of a boat and pictures aside biblical verses depicting the Land flowing with milk and honey. Signature of "Avraham bar Ya'akov" - this is Avraham ben Ya'akov Hager, renowned artist who also drew the pictures in the haggadah.

Regarding this haggadah and the drawings with the map, see: HaHaggadah HaMetzuyeret SheBaDefus, Areshet, III, 1961, page 24. Ya'ari 73; Otzar HaHaggadot 120. Map: Laor 876.

Includes the copper engraving illustrations and a map of the borders of Eretz Yisrael that most subsequent Hagadahs used as their illustrations.

Later cloth binding. A heavily used Hagadah.

Tears and repairs throughout affecting text. A third of the map is present.
