The Congo Fire Bug Animated Cap Bomb
Unknown American Maker. Circa Mid 1890's - 3" Long. Gertrude Hegarty Collection. This unusual trompe l'oeil novelty was intended to frighten all those who encountered the ugly bug. Once the bug's head is pushed in, it can be loaded with a cap. Stepping on him or pushing him down causes the cap to explode.
