Ecce Homo, polychrome wooden sculpture of a bust, XV / XVI century. H 72 cm
H 71 cm, 40,25 cm base.
This work expressive performance with extreme psychological realism, shows Christ at a time when, according to the Gospel of John, Pontius Pilate - Governor of Rome - showing the crowd the Christ in the famous phrase "Ecce Homo." ASORstudio
The sculpture, made of wood, technically according to the early medieval use, has been emptied of the internal marrow to ensure that over time does not manifest cracks and fissures.
The work is very simple in structure and is sculptural whole time to the representation, especially in the face slightly inclined downwards and in the exceptional construction of the linked hands.
The intended pathos is expressed by the face that is liturgical clothing the observer. It seems that arouses and increases the dramatic power forward as if the work there was the crowd that stands before when Pilate had to express his opinion.
Also hands tied seem to point us in the condition of Christ, in fact, the right hand does the pointing finger towards himself, as to want to push to observe the state in which he was reduced to save all of humanity.
These attitudes are the basic compositional timing of this sculpture that, in this way, it fulfills the maximum focusing a psychological realism regardless of the voLamps and forms that although are optimal.
